DEMOYO - World MasterCard Fashion Week - October 23, 2012
fashion on line
Fashion Designer Paidemoyo Chideya has spent the last ten years discovering what it means to become not only the epitome of the classic, but the innovative of fashion as well. With her product line, it is clear that this designer is here to make her mark on the fashion world.

Born in Zimbabwe, raised in Sweden, London and with nuances in Paris, Paidemoyo learned to refine her design eye through the diversity of all the multiplexes of cultures that surrounded her upbringing. Upon her New York City arrival, and determined to learn and succeed in the fashion realm, she apprenticed for Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein and the likes of Ralph Lauren, where she learned to refine her eye for vintage, style, eloquence and demure.

Now mature, and ready to entrance the world with her own style, she has created DeMOYO which encapsulates her vision of the fashion world and her efforts to give back to a world that is in desperate need of healing. This designer not only has a vision, but genuinely works on infusing help into the infrastructures of suffering economies, by not only being eco- conscious, but by creating jobs where jobs are needed right in the heart of the problem, sourcing locally in Africa.

David Jones AW13 Fashion Launch
fashion on line

David Jones AW13 Fashion Launch: Sydney, Australia - 6th February 2013...

A good dose of Australia's social set gathered to watch top line models including Miranda Kerr and Megan Gale strut at David Jones' Elizabeth Street store from around 7pm this evening.

Thirty-seven designers including Alex Perry, Collette Dinnigan and Zimmerman showcased over 230 looks alongside DJs runway debutants, Ellery, Rachel Gilbert and Banjo and Matilda.

Dual tone colours and prints featured heavily throughout the evening while lace and leather made a big comeback.

The 175-year-old retailer has reluctantly embraced new technologies to lift struggling sales and this year's event was livestreamed (via the internet) for the benefit of those who missed out on one of the show's exclusive tickets.

David Jones' group executive of merchandise Donna Player said those who couldn't attend could keep track of what was happening on social media.

"Customer viewing parties are a first and there will be stylists there as well. They can watch the livestream from Sydney, drink champagne and participate in the whole event even though they aren't physically here," she told Murdoch owned The Telegraph.

"It's bringing social media back to that whole tactile experience because they are able to buy the clothes straight away, the majority of those looks are in store immediately."

Well done to everyone involved in the success of the event. Now to wait and see if it makes a difference to the bottom line of the high end retailer.

Fashion After Dark
fashion on line
Fashion Week has finally ended and I’m back to a life of leisure but this not so striking image needs a better explanation than that. Can I explain what I like about this photo? Should I even try to explain?

I had a little free time and wanted a parking spot that was closer to work for a quick getaway. I pulled into a space and instead of feeding the meter I was sitting in my car on Broadway and 67th Street, waiting for 10 PM when it would become a free parking spot.

As I was sitting there the sidewalks were crowded with people walking home from one of the Lincoln Center Fashion Shows. The two young ladies in this shot were taking up the rear and seemed especially enthusiastic about the fashions they viewed that evening. Along with the clicking of their heels, I could hear their praises from a block away.

I was parked in front of a fashion boutique and couldn’t help but think “like moths to a flame” when the two decided they had talked enough to each other about the fashion show. They tucked themselves into the doorway and started calling other people to tell their other friends “The new spring line up is outrageous!”

I thought it made for a pretty interesting view so I stuck the old Canon G10 out the passenger window and started clicking away. I realized that the angle was too low from the car window, the storefront would look like it is falling over backwards. So I put down the convertible top of my car so I could stand up and get a higher view.

The two young fashion talkers took no notice of a convertible top going down twelve feet away on a February night. They seemed to not even notice a middle aged man standing in that convertible and taking their picture. Obviously both the young ladies and I had an obsession but a very different focus.

No stranger to the Toronto fashion scene, David Dixon is one of Canada’s leading women’s fashion designers. Following his training at Ryerson University, David apprenticed with Canadian fashion icon Alfred Sung, Dixon went on to launch his own label under the Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI), a highly respected organization focused on assisting new designers, before establishing his own design and production studio in 1999.

His collections exude a quiet elegance; by employing simple and modern silhouettes, collections are defined by his exceptional understanding of textiles. Innovative designs have won Dixon an elite following among the communities of film and fashion, including: Jann Arden, Pamela Anderson, Meg Ryan, Wendy Crewson, Ashley MacIsaac, Holly Cole, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kari Matchett, Paul Gross and newcomer Kristen Booth, to name a few.

More recently, Dixon has expanded his successful signature collection, and has partnered with several National and International brands. Collaborating with Town Shoes has resulted in a nationally recognized David Dixon shoe line, while partnerships with The Shopping Channel and Mattel International along with exclusive licensing rights for Barbie by David Dixon, have further increased the designers’ global recognition.

Currently the David Dixon Signature Collection can be found at Holt Renfrew, The Bay and specialty boutiques internationally.

DEMOYO - World MasterCard Fashion Week - October 23, 2012

Absolutely (almost) nothing on the intertubes about this baby. So there you go. I hope it turns out okay, it's my first time building a bike ever, and I'm already doing something rare by turning a women's bike frame into a fixie. Obviously it's not from Crescent's racing bikes series, but I'm still hoping the frame will hold.

It seems to be dead easy to find horizontal drop-outs on bikes here in Finland, by the way. Some site gave me the impression that they're not done so much anymore, but I swear every bike I've seen in this country has 'em.

Item Title: American fashions, Winter 1893

Description/Notes: A woman stands next to a deep rose velvet chair. She is wearing a tan and green dress that is trimmed with white lace.
